Bands
- Faraquet
- DC band, by turns jazzy, punk, angular, melodic, loud, soft, often
in the same section of the song. Brilliant! Features former members
of
Smart Went Crazy.
- Burning Airlines
- A little bit of their antecedents (Jawbox,
Wool) and a whole lot of melodic songs laced with dissonant
guitar and non-obvious rhythmic twists. As satisfying as a cold drink
after that long walk in the (rock) dessert.
- At The Drive-in
- Explosive punk from El Paso, Texas with songs so strong that they
hold up even when stripped of the raw focused energy of the band's live
performance. Buy in/Casino/OUT today.
- The Wrens
- An American garage rock XTC. Still haven't caught them live, but
all reports are that they live up to the promise of the Secaucus
album.
- Telegraph Melts
- An instrumental trio, guitar/cello/percussion (& odds and ends).
The textures are a bit unusual, but you'll find yourself humming the
tunes a week later. Isn't that what it's all about?
- Dismemberment Plan
- DCs purveyor's of all that is spastic, funky and wacky. Music that has
humor doesn't have to be a joke.
- Spirit Caravan (formerly Shine)
- Stoner rock from right here in Maryland...if you haven't heard Spirit
Caravan live you don't even know what heavy is! Their CD is out
and is everything those of us who have been waiting with bated breath
had hoped it would be.
- Shiner
- Kansas City's finest--if you remember who you are at the end of the
show, you can't be reached. All beautiful, all the time no matter how
loud or edgy it gets.
- Stella
- A band we shared a bill with and liked a lot. Epic stuff, think
Neil with Crazy Horse, early Afghan Whigs, a garage Radiohead.
They're from Nashville, TN, and tour a lot. Their CD Accension
is on Beggars Banquet.
- Roger Miller
- A member of Mission of Burma, for years now Roger's been doing all manner
of interesting things from rock bands to solo piano and guitar records
to his new piano/drums duo the Binary System. Now he's on the web, so
check it out.
- Shudder To Think
- A favorite band of ours and essentially indescribable.
- Fugazi
- Everybody knows these guys--but this page does the best job of
keeping you (and us) up to date on where their next show is.
- Spackle
- From San Francisco--they are probably no more, but their legacy lives on.
Go to the web site and get yourself a CD and see what happens when you
lock Jawbox and King Crimson in a room for a while.
Labels
- DeSoto
- Home of Shiner, Dismemberment Plan, Candy Machine, Burning Airlines,
Jawbox...if I were a label, I'd be DeSoto.
- Laundry Room
- The label face of our erstwhile producer Barrett Jones. Home of the Harlingtox A.D. CD that was mixed right here in our studio as
well as Barrett's own group, Churn.
- Deepreverb
- Home of our friends 45 Spiders and a compilation that we're on.
- Resin Records
- Home of the cool Fort Reno compilation--buy it!
- Southern Home Page
- The web home of every label and it's brother, not to mention Dischord.
- timmi-kat ReCoRDS
- Tube Alloy Catalog
- They put out and sell respectively the Spackle CD. Buy!
